When people think about the perfect travel destination for partying, Ibiza is undisputedly the first that comes to mind all around the world. The island on the Balearian Sea has been the home of partying since the 1970s, when it first gained its reputation as a paradise for bohemian lifestyle, and hasn’t relented since. In this weekly series, we will be taking a deep dive into the clubs that turned Ibiza into what it is today.

The first stop on the journey is the nightclub that is often credited with changing the partying landscape in Ibiza, establishing it as the ultimate destination for party lovers, the legendary Pacha Ibiza. The club opened its doors in 1973, being part of the Pacha Group. The endeavour, which at the time seemed like a financial burden, converted and old farmhouse into a nightclub. By the 80s and 90s, it was a regular occurrence to witness the biggest celebrities lounging, unwinding at the club, and captivating many other party-goers with its glitz and glamour.

Fast forward a few decades, and Pacha has expanded into the sprawling super-club with roughly 3000 capacity. Perhaps the term super is not doing it justice, as it has maintained its status as the island’s main attraction. Inside, there are multiple rooms, each serving their own musical vibe. The Main Room is the one responsible for the most sought-after type of music on the island, house and techno. Some other genres at the club include the likes of retro pop and R&B, and many more. It also has a breezy roof terrace, if you want to take a break. Pacha also hosts to many different thematic nights, such as the famous retro-themed Flower Power, which was the first of its kind in the club and has been running since the 70s. Pacha is also known for its resident DJ nights, with artist which have become the heartbeat of Ibiza’s electronic music scene. DJs, such as David Guetta had their own residencies, his F*** Me I’m Famous night was hosted for 17 years, until 2018. Nowadays, artists like Solomun, Marco Carola and CamelPhat all have residencies.

The club underwent a facelift in 2018, the entrance got reimagined, rooms got widened, and most importantly, the DJ booth got moved to the heart of the dancefloor. Ceilings were upgraded to host dazzling lights, and the sound system got a mechanical leap forward. Despite all of this, the vibe stayed true to its roots, with whitewashed walls and wooden floors. What separated Pacha from any other club is how it manages both spectacle and welcoming energy. Its layout, terraces, themed nights, and rooms create a welcoming “house party with your friends” vibe in the middle of euphoric mayhem. The everchanging décor and Pacha’s attention to guest comfort means you are as likely to have the night of your life in the middle of the dancefloor as to grab a refreshing cocktail under the starry night sky.
